Matt 4

23Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people. 24The news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them. 25Large crowds followed Him from Galilee and [the] Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and [from] beyond the Jordan.

1When Jesus saw the crowds,

  • He had the whole region in front of him
  • They had come to him because of the miracles -
    • he had DEMONSTRATED the Kingdom now it is time to FRAME the kingdom
    • they had tasted kingdom - like he was handing out free samples
    • This is where THAT comes from.  That life.  That power.  That Reality - This is where it comes from

He went up on the mountain;

  • This is why it is called the “sermon on the mount"
  • Possibly just for the helpful sound or visual
  • Possibly to set this moment aside as special
    • We need "mountain" moments
      • Moments set aside to hear His voice
      • Moments that we create intentionally to look back on and remember as a milestone.
    • The law was given from a mountain - it is possible JESUS was making a connection between that mountain moment and this one.

and after He sat down,

  • Teachers sat and students stood in those days
  • Jesus was saying to them. I am going to teach you now

His disciples came to Him.

  • When Jesus starts to speak we need to start to listen
  • Jesus said "my sheep know my voice" - do we know when to listen. When to turn our attention?

2He opened His mouth and [began] to teach them, saying,

  • In this sermon Jesus lays out the DNA of the kingdom.
  • This is what it means to be my people to welcome Heaven to Earth to see my Kingdom my rulership extended to the planet.
  • It starts with you aligning your hearts to mine and then out of you will flow the kingdom authority and power...

In this next season as a church we are marking out a time asking Jesus to teach us

  1. Who does he want us to be as FCC?
    • What is our DNA?
    • What is our atmosphere?
    • What should we care about?
    • What should we reach for?
  2. What does He want us to do?
  3. How does He want us to do it?
